  • Local ski resorts are open with fresh snow as Mt. Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park offers $45 Night Ski Lift Tickets today. The Orchard Park Winter Wonderland Holiday Lights remain on display until January 4, while Numerica Skating Ribbon hosted a DJ night on January 2 (with contests and music).  FOX 28 Spokane

  • This weekend, Spokane Valley skywatchers can enjoy the first supermoon of 2026 (the Wolf Moon) which appears brighter as it nears Earth, though its light may hide the Quadrantid Meteor Shower peaking Saturday evening until Jan. 16. Look up for a stunning night sky.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • STCU is offering free FAFSA help to students and families in Washington and Idaho with support from local high school and college counselors (and Launch NW). The service is free for all, even if you are not an STCU member.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Local nurse Hannah Cvancara challenged military rules that barred amputees from service by pushing a congressional change that now supports waivers for qualified applicants.   • At St. Joseph Regional Medical Center's Family Beginnings, six babies were born in a 12-hour span from New Year's Eve into early 2026.   • Pet owners can start the new year by following a pet resolutions checklist recommended by emergency vet Dr. Ezra Ameis that includes vet visits + proper nutrition + enrichment activities to maintain pet health, prevent weight gain and ensure timely vaccinations.  FOX 28 Spokane
