- ➤ On Jan. 9, after dropping off his daughter at Logan Elementary, Arnoldo Tiul Caal was detained by federal immigration agents. After picking her up, he was taken to a processing center in Dilley, Texas, where they now await a March 9 court hearing (local officials worry over her missing school). Spokane Public Radio
- ➤ Hunters must submit reports for each deer, elk, bear, cougar and turkey tag by Jan. 31 to avoid a $10 fee on their next license; those with special permits have 10 extra days while cougar reports are due by March 31 without a fee. The Spokesman-Review
