- ➤ Spokane Public Schools & LaunchNW hosted Winterfest today at Riverfront Park, where families enjoyed free skating, a carousel ride, interactive exhibits, a youth fashion show, and a Q&A session with The Lion King cast to boost community engagement. KXLY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Senate approved a funding package that could provide up to $70 million to Spokane Aerospace Tech Hub, a local consortium making advanced composites — $55 million is set for aerospace composites and $15 million for thermoplastic parts. The funds will boost job growth pending a House vote. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Volunteers are conducting the annual Point in Time Count across Spokane County this week to survey people experiencing homelessness; they will finish the survey on February 2 and results will be released this summer to guide local housing programs. KXLY
- ➤ Spokane reported improved outcomes in its homeless services as the count dropped from 7,200 in 2024 to about 6,400 in 2025 and permanent housing placements nearly doubled—officials plan to share further findings in early March. The Spokesman-Review

- ➤ On Friday, Caden Andreas of the Ridgeline Falcons scored 21 points to join the GSL top 10 scorers as his team upset the Titans and Emma Bryant led Deer Park Stags with 25 points and eight steals. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ The Spokane Indians are hosting a free send-off for the Seahawks at Avista Stadium on Friday, Feb. 6 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.—fans will form a giant human 12 on the field with a group photo at 12:12 p.m. and are encouraged to RSVP online. KXLY
- ➤ Mt. Spokane faces a challenging ski season with less snowfall, but a storm is forecast to bring four to six inches to boost slope conditions (as noted by the general manager). Visitors can still enjoy runs and support the lodge. KHQ
- ➤ Taima the Hawk, the live mascot for 21 seasons, will fly at Super Bowl 60 next Sunday in San Francisco. The hawk lives in Spokane and is cared for by falconers Dave Knutson and Robin (local handlers who prepare him for game day). KXLY
