ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • K9 Jango, who served Spokane County Sheriff’s Office for 1.5 years, died after an injury while on duty in November 2025 — he ran through a commercial grade double pane glass window and despite his handler’s CPR and ER intubation, he did not recover.  KHQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Pool World celebrated its 50-year anniversary today with founder Lyla Henderson (93) still leading the business that began in 1976, and the store has grown into a one-stop shop for pool and backyard products across four locations.  The Spokesman-Review
  • T-Mobile announced it will lay off 393 employees at its Spokane Valley office and other Washington locations, with the first separations scheduled for April 2. The company said the layoffs are permanent but will not affect ongoing operations.  KHQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Spokane increased nearly 8 cents this week to $3.47 per gallon, according to GasBuddy. The rise comes amid climbing oil prices and supply concerns (nationally, prices are about $2.83 per gallon).  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • NEWTech Prep started taking applications yesterday from more than 1,000 students seeking a career-focused high school experience. The school offers 18 hands-on programs in skilled trades, professional services & healthcare and will accept applications until spring.  KXLY

FINANCE NEWS

  • Local credit experts from BECU and STCU clarified myths about credit use today by advising that paying off balances monthly, considering careful card closures, and keeping on-time payments helps build a solid credit score (Jacob Baker and Robin Galtieri).  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Spokane Valley Fire Department recorded 25,393 calls in 2025 – nearly 5% more than in 2024 – with 83% involving emergency medical services and Advanced Life Support topping the responses.  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Local organizations have launched free resources for residents with dementia and their caregivers, including Memory Cafés, in-home consultations, and first responder training (services available through ALTCEW and the Spokane Regional Dementia Friendly Community task force). SPORTS NEWS

  • Lauren Whittaker earned WCC Freshman of the Week by demonstrating standout performance at her school, with the award recognizing her achievements last week. Local officials say the accolade celebrates her contributions during a competitive season.  KXLY
  • Gonzaga beat Saint Mary’s 73 to 65 and stayed at No. 6 in the AP poll while dropping to No. 5 in NET rankings—marking a 15 game winning streak that boosts their NCAA Tournament profile.  The Spokesman-Review
