EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Last week, Spokane Valley Tech hosted a STEM education event where three wildlife professionals from the Kalispel Tribe’s Natural Resources Department shared field lessons on tracking bears and cougars using radio telemetry collars and tranquilizer darts (including Boon the tracking dog). - ➤ Rep. Michael Baumgartner is inviting nominations for his Classroom to the Capitol contest where teachers can attend the State of the Union address on Feb. 24; nominees must include an essay — outlining a teacher's impact —. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Congressman Michael Baumgartner said the federal funding package will let the Spokane Aerospace Tech Hub compete for up to $70 million to boost local jobs and innovation. He made the statement Tuesday after H.R. 7148 passed, ending the partial government shutdown. KHQ
- ➤ In 2025, the Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a record 25,393 calls, with 83% for emergency medical services. The department reported a nearly 5% rise from 2024 as Advanced Life Support and Basic Life Support calls topped the counts. KHQ
REAL ESTATE NEWS
- ➤ Residents at Haystack Heights enjoy co-housing that features private units plus shared spaces like a woodworking studio and meditation benches to promote neighborly interactions. Homes sold out before completion while the city plans to monitor co-living permits in the coming months. KHQ
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ In Tuesday's Greater Spokane League games, Central Valley girls won 53–40 with Olivia Patshkowski scoring 25 points and Aspen Henry adding 21, while Rogers boys edged Moscow 57–54 with Hands Warrick scoring 17 points.
