- ➤ State lawmakers from Olympia have proposed a tax on sugar-sweetened beverages that will take effect Jan. 1, 2028 at $0.03 per fluid ounce. The measure is designed to fund food support programs (SNAP and fruit/vegetable incentives) to help address food insecurity. FOX 28 Spokane
