  • Ron Hauenstein's Spokane Fatherhood Initiative, celebrating ten years, offers a 12-session course that teaches men to improve parenting skills and has certified over 800 dads+ strengthening family bonds.   • A new edible cookie dough shop opened today in Spokane Valley and offers various flavors+ safe, ready-to-eat dough treats made fresh daily for local visitors.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A 10-year-old Spokane Public Schools student and her father were released from the Dilly Immigration Processing Center in Texas on Saturday — Latinos En Spokane said they are helping the family navigate the immigration process as they head home.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • On Friday, Gonzaga Prep ended its girls basketball season undefeated with a 64-23 win over Ferris, while Clarkston upset Deer Park 68-67 in overtime. Both teams showed strong efforts (Aylah Cornwall had 11 points for Gonzaga Prep and Preslee Dempsey scored 15 for Clarkston) in the Greater Spokane League games.  The Spokesman-Review
  • On Friday, 200 fans gathered at Avista Stadium on the Indians field to form a giant '12' + show support for the Seahawks as they get ready for the Super Bowl.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga women beat Pacific 72-44 on Saturday at McCarthey Athletic Center and climbed to first place in the West Coast Conference after Portland beat Oregon State.  The Spokesman-Review
  • At West Valley HS on Saturday, Freeman advanced after defeating Chewelah 72-56 with Finn LaPointe scoring 23 points, while Kettle Falls and Asotin also won their district games. In girls basketball, Liberty, Davenport and St. George’s won first rounds and will face top seeds in quarterfinals on Tuesday.  The Spokesman-Review
  • No. 6 Gonzaga is set to face Oregon State after an overtime loss in Portland last season — the team, missing key player Braden Huff, will try to regain momentum in an upcoming conference contest.  The Spokesman-Review
  • At Town Toyota Center on Saturday, the Spokane Chiefs defeated the Wenatchee Wild 4-1. Sam Oremba scored the decisive goal with less than six minutes left in the second period on the power play, helping the team secure the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.  The Spokesman-Review
  • At the Spokane Convention Center on Feb. 7, Mead’s Ethan Harvey pinned his opponent in 3:33 to claim his first district title and add to five team championships, while Mead qualified 16 wrestlers and scored 431 points. The team will compete in Mat Classic (Feb. 20-21 at Tacoma Dome).  The Spokesman-Review
  • Local NFL legend Mark Rypien discussed his championship past and thoughts on upcoming Super Bowl matchups during a recent podcast broadcast. He recalled memories from Shadle Park High School and his Redskins era (including his Super Bowl ring) while linking his legacy to today’s sports trends.  The Spokesman-Review
