CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Bill and Sherry Hieb met at a seventh-grade dance in 1967 and moved from Reardan to Spokane Valley in 1989 to build their life together; they are now retired and will celebrate 54 years of marriage this coming June. The Spokesman-Review
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ EWU received a grant to create a dental health education hub that will serve students and local families. The project will expand training opportunities & improve dental care resources in Spokane Valley. KXLY
- ➤ Eastern Washington University will build a new 46-chair dental hygiene clinic funded by a $1 million gift from Delta Dental, with construction starting soon in the SIERR Building near Gonzaga campus. Dental hygiene and EWU/UW Ride program students will train there; the clinic is set to open early next year. Spokane Public Radio
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane Clean Air announced Dish Technologies Spokane as the 2026 Clean Air Award recipient Monday. The facility near Interstate 90 on West Plains upgraded its large diesel generators with new engine block heaters and an improved operating system to cut fuel use and emissions by 30%. - ➤ Ecology ordered the city and county—joint owners of Spokane International Airport—to provide bottled water and filters for West Plains residents after PFAS contamination; officials must submit a plan by Tuesday, Feb. 24, and Ecology will hold meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Shriners Event Center. - ➤ Washington State University's Murrow College of Communication and Report for America plan to add reporters in all 39 counties to support local news coverage. Senator Shelly Short is set to provide a legislative update later as the initiative moves forward. Spokane Public Radio
