COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local viewers in Spokane Valley will soon see longer news coverage as KXLY and KAYU Fox 28 extend Good Morning Northwest to four hours and add a 10 p.m. newscast daily starting March 1—this local partnership aims to offer more trusted updates when they are needed most.  KXLY
  • The Salvation Army reopened its renovated food bank, Hope Market, on Indiana Avenue earlier this week, offering Spokane families a grocery shopping experience with free groceries for up to 1,500 families — with volunteers guiding selections.  KXLY

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Skyway Cafe at Felts Field Airport now plans to reopen later this summer after a January 2025 fire affected the historic building — rebuilding and code updates are slowing progress. Owner Sandra Melter said the reopening may occur in late June or July.  KHQ

  • Spokane Falls Community College hosts a monthly planetarium show blending education and entertainment through a full dome movie and half-hour sky presentation—tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for kids, with the April 16 show on sale March 16 after sold-out February 19 and March 12 shows.  KHQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Scientists report that Spokane Valley basins have very low snowpack this winter, with some areas holding one-third of typical levels (a trend noted since December’s warm start) and experts warn reduced snow may lead to longer fire seasons if spring remains dry.  The Inlander

HEALTH NEWS

  • Spokane County saw suspected overdoses fall from an average of 223 per month in 2025 to 158 per month between August and December — a decline credited to coordinated outreach and increased naloxone distribution by local health services.  KXLY
