COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane’s Bloomsday cofounder Doug Kelley was stranded in Doha after receiving emergency alerts and witnessing explosions while at the beach Saturday. He remains unable to depart as all commercial flights are grounded (travelers face ongoing safety concerns).  KHQ

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Seaport Airlines launched daily flights Monday from Felts Field to Boeing Field to offer Inland Northwest travelers a quicker path with parking near the plane & no TSA screening. One-way tickets cost $299 with four round trips scheduled daily for business travelers.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Sixteen local businesses sent a letter Tuesday opposing changes to Spokane Falls Boulevard that would convert it to a two-way street and add bike lanes — they want to keep its current one-way design as construction is set to begin in 2028.  FOX 28 Spokane

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spokane Public Schools is replacing Adams Elementary as demolition continues and construction is set to begin in the next 30 to 50 days. The new school will be built near 37th Avenue and Grand Boulevard—designed to offer more green space—and students are scheduled to move in by the start of the 2027-28 school year.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane County Fire District 9 secured a Trauma Verified Ambulance Transport License that lets it offer emergency ambulance services without American Medical Response fees. The new service will start July 1 and follows the district's purchase of three new ambulances and hiring of firefighter paramedics and EMTs.  KHQ
  • Spokane County Fire District 9 received three new ambulances on March 3 and is getting them outfitted for their in-house emergency transport program, which will launch on July 1 to improve care access for local residents.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gonzaga freshman forward Lauren Whittaker was named the West Coast Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year Tuesday (Mar. 3) in Spokane. She is the second freshman ever to sweep both awards and earned a record 13 freshman honors during the season.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Gonzaga senior Graham Ike earned the West Coast Conference Player of the Year award after leading the league in scoring with 19.7 points per game last week — he is the first Zag to win the honor since Drew Timme split the award in 2022-23.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Four teams from the Northeast 2B League are heading to Spokane Arena to contest the championship; Freeman faces Napavine at 5:30 p.m. today while winners advance to play Thursday — all teams aim to reclaim last season’s success.  The Spokesman-Review
