She noted that eastern growers in New York later recognized the shift as western producers advanced their techniques. Spokane Public Radio

- ➤ Stu Jackson, a new member of the NCAA committee and WCC commissioner, is on leave doing seasonal work in Carmel, Indiana (so he does not discuss Gonzaga) as the committee prepares for Selection Sunday. Gonzaga coach Mark Few said his team faces an interesting seeding challenge, and experts say strong wins may help the team perform above its seed. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Bridget Burns, a Lewis and Clark high school graduate and Michigan Tech sophomore, competed earlier this month in the NCAA Nordic skiing championships in Hanover, New Hampshire—finishing 39th in a 7.5-kilometer race and 30th in a 20K race despite feeling unwell on a warm day.
