CRIME NEWS

  • On Saturday, a year after her son was fatally shot in the Minnehaha Neighborhood, Tina Reynolds and about 15 others released lime green and white balloons at Olmsted Brothers Green Park to honor him and 24 other homicide victims as she recalled watching security footage of him running from his suspected killer before the gunshots rang out—she plans to hold the tribute every year.  The Spokesman-Review

  • The Woman’s Club of Spokane will host 33 Artist Market on Saturday, March 29 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 1428 W. 9th Avenue—featuring artists from across the Northwest showcasing and selling handcrafted work.  KXLY
  • New York-based comedian and actor Gianmarco Soresi will perform today at Spokane Comedy Club—he is known for his sharp societal observations and energetic stage presence.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Sawyer Colvin, a UW medical student from Spokane, got accepted to the psychiatry residency program at Sacred Heart — his hometown hospital that has long nurtured local talent. More med students from UW and WSU are set to start their residencies locally as Match Day results show a growing trend for staying in Spokane after graduation.  Spokane Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Spokane Chiefs ended their regular season with a 4-3 win over Tri-City and locked the third seed; they will face the Vancouver Giants in the first round on the road—since Spokane Arena is busy hosting the Women’s NCAA basketball tournament. Game one is scheduled for March 28 at Vancouver’s Langley Events Center with further dates set if needed.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane will host the NCAA women’s basketball tournament, where teams will stay near the arena and have police escorts while officials expect about 10,500 (just under 11,000) visitors to pass through the arena, campus and park over four days.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • The Gonzaga Women's Basketball team beat Colorado on Sunday with a score of 64 to 55 after a strong third quarter when the team scored 25 to Colorado’s 17. Yvonne Ejim—named player of the game—tallied 15 points, 10 rebounds, and 3 assists.  KXLY
