COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Riverside State Park has made its Action Trackchair available free of charge for 90-minute sessions, letting visitors with mobility challenges explore nearby trails. The pilot program, which began in November, will run until May 1 and is filling up fast + waitlist options are available.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Residents donated over $227,000 at the Light the World Giving Machine installed at the Spokane Valley Mall during the holiday season to help local nonprofits supporting families and children — Second Harvest Northwest received the largest share of $44,205 in its first season.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane city and county announced an interim plan to provide drinking water without PFAS to West Plains residents using the fill station on Garden Springs Road. Filtration systems funded by a 7.5 million state grant will be installed later this year once Ecology approves the plan.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane County residents eligible for the Washington Working Families Tax Credit are missing their chance to claim up to $335 for individuals and $1,330 for families with three children as 9,000 have not applied and 15,000 from past years remain unclaimed.   • Property owners on the West Plains may vote later this year on a measure to impose a $15 annual fee to fund groundwater improvements; Spokane County commissioners will meet in April to decide if the proposal goes to the August ballot, affecting around 18,600 parcels in Cheney + Airway Heights.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Washington lawmakers approved a grid authority bill and a data center emissions law to support clean energy goals, while measures for textile waste and bottle recycling failed (lawmakers plan to revisit these bills next session). HEALTH NEWS

  • Trader Joe’s recalled nearly 10 million pounds of frozen foods after glass fragments were found in Vegetable Fried Rice packages; the FDA notice flagged carrots as the likely source and advised Spokane Valley customers to discard or return items (best-by dates Feb. 28 to Nov. 19).  The Spokesman-Review
  • Planned Parenthood in Spokane received full state funding for its Abortion Access Project after last year's $8.5 million cut, ensuring the clinic can continue offering services like cancer and birth control screenings.   • Jewels Helping Hands partners with Providence to bring on-site medical care to its local homeless shelters. Providence will assign a medical assistant to each shelter and a nurse practitioner will conduct routine rounds.  KXLY

  • Spokane native Dylan Darling made a game-winning shot on March 23, sending Saint John's to the Sweet 16 in a victory over Kansas — former coach Mike Hamilton noted that his journey began at Central Valley High School and highlights the strength of Inland Northwest basketball.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • The six-seeded Spokane Chiefs will open their seven-game WHL playoff series Friday at Prince George with a 7 p.m. road game; home matchups are scheduled for Monday and April 1-2 if needed.  The Spokesman-Review
