COMMUNITY NEWS

  • City officials will review the future of Spokane Valley's local dog park following recent budget cuts as the park may close if funds are not restored. The review is scheduled for later this week.  KXLY
  • Ronald McDonald House is hosting its annual Windermere Supply Drive to collect everyday essentials for families with sick children; donations may be dropped off at any Windermere Real Estate office until 3 p.m. today — a drive-thru option will run from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday.  FOX 28 Spokane

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Drivers noticed trash on I-90 and near downtown after a mild winter left debris exposed, and state officials & volunteer groups said they are working to collect litter and remind truckers to secure loads. Cleanup efforts are ongoing along high-traffic sections.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov Bob Ferguson signed a bill on Wednesday that gives Spokane’s Waste-to-Energy facility until 2030 (as it gradually reduces emissions) time to submit plans to meet greenhouse gas standards by 2040 and 2050, while providing no-cost carbon credits to prevent higher ratepayer costs.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane County District 9 will launch its own ambulance service on July 1 using three cherry red vehicles and hiring 15 new employees — residents in Fairwood, Glenden, Midway, Wandermere, Arrowhead Point and Brentwood will be served at no cost as its contract with American Medical Response ends.  The Spokesman-Review
  • I-90 construction resumes with crews working to open new lanes (drivers should expect detours and delays). Commuters are advised to follow posted signage for safe travel.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • East Adams Rural Healthcare in Ritzville is working to tackle fiscal challenges while two Spokane med students plan to begin assignments this summer + two local residency programs unveil new opportunities to expand medical training.  Spokane Public Radio
  • The Spokane Regional Health District confirmed a measles exposure in the county after a diagnosed person visited local venues from March 11 to March 19 — urging families to check their MMR vaccination status and contact a provider if symptoms develop.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Madison Smith, 23, has been fighting Hodgkin’s lymphoma since last October with long chemotherapy treatments at Multicare’s Deaconess Hospital Cancer and Blood Specialty Center, and her colleagues at Off Road Vixens started a fundraiser to help pay for her care — her final session is scheduled for late April.  FOX 28 Spokane
