  • The Journal of Business launched its Inland Northwest Business of the Year Awards to recognize organizations—and one business leader—that showed growth, success and innovation. Winners announced on March 26th at the Spokane Club are Davenport Hotels for Large Business, Verdis for Medium Business, Electric Photoland for Small Business, Embrace Washington for Social-Service Nonprofit and John J. CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane Valley police executed a SWAT search warrant today at South Farr and East 6th for stolen property and arrested several individuals (no injuries were reported) as investigators take over the case.  KHQ
  • Spokane Valley Police arrested several people on March 27th at South Farr and East 6th after a SWAT team executed a search warrant for stolen property—police reported no injuries and said additional details will be provided in a future press release.  FOX 28 Spokane

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Whitworth University received nearly $2 million from the National Science Foundation to support low-income students pursuing STEM degrees and will offer at least 80 scholarships to students in fields such as biology, chemistry, engineering, physics, math, and computer science—together with academic and career support to help them reach long-term success.  KXLY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservationists are making a final push to stop the state Department of Natural Resources from transferring 200 acres of woodland near Thorpe Road to a developer planning up to 1,000 homes. They discovered a clause that could end the deal until April 6 and will present their concerns at the April 1 meeting—arguing the process was rushed and did not fully consider the land’s value.  The Spokesman-Review

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ryan Becker is battling a rare skin condition called pyoderma gangrenosum after visits to Mayo Clinic and Johns Hopkins — he will soon begin a 40‑week trial at Oregon Health and Sciences and is spending time on the Oregon coast with his family before commuting from Spokane to Portland for treatment.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, the Spokane Chiefs begin their first playoff round against Vancouver in Vancouver because the Spokane Arena is hosting the NCAA Women’s Basketball tournament and they will play Game 2 on Sunday. The Chiefs swept the season series 4-0 & they hope to shift the series home if they win one or more games.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane Public Schools and the Spokane Park Board plan to upgrade Merkel Sports Complex with all-weather fields and lights to allow games and practices to extend into the evening and year-round—voter approval is needed to fund the Together Spokane initiative.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Coaches in the 2025 Greater Spokane League track and field voted to pick champions at the subdistrict meet for the first time since 1976+ they will review the new format after the season. Meets will take place at Mount Tahoma High School for 4A, 3A, and 2A and at Zaepfel Stadium for 1A, 2B, and 1B from May 23-25.  The Spokesman-Review
