  • A Spokane mother posted a TikTok alleging a daycare safety lapse that attracted nearly 2 million views today. The video is stirring local concerns about childcare safety.  KHQ

ECONOMY NEWS

  • A new study (by Luxury Link) shows that from 2019 to 2025, a four‐night family vacation cost rose to an average of $4,668 with meal prices up 28.2% and Spokane costs increasing by 24.8%; families may want to consider off-peak travel to reduce expenses.  FOX 28 Spokane

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spokane Valley's Parks and Recreation camp has six spots left and welcomes last-minute sign-ups while The Warehouse also offers Spring Break camps with sports activities like dodgeball + nerf gun wars and early drop-off and pickup. Camp fees range from $180 to $279 per camper.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Gonzaga alum Richard Koelsch was honored for his role on NASA’s Artemis II mission. The 2004 graduate, working on ECLSS for Gateway, helped support the lunar voyage launched Wednesday from Cape Canaveral.  KHQ
  • A local mother (Shaeleen Wynecoop) said her viral TikTok raised concerns after her 3-year-old briefly left a childcare center's playground and ran toward busy Ray Street on April 1. The facility stated a teacher immediately retrieved the child and has since increased safety measures and retrained staff.  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Spokane County Board of County Commissioners proclaimed April as Child Abuse Prevention Month, urging parents, teachers, health care providers and others to work together to protect children. The county aims to help keep kids safe, healthy and supported.  KHQ
  • Spokane is set to renovate park bathrooms funded by the Together Spokane initiative after a survey reported 70% noted inconsistent restroom access. B.A. Clark Park is the first project, with the Park Board reviewing plans this week and more upgrades planned for other parks.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office received $726,158 from the Department of Homeland Security to boost security for the upcoming World Cup, with funds paying for overtime and equipment—including a long-range acoustic device—for crowd control at Lumen Field and base camps.  Spokane Public Radio
  • At Fairchild, 15 airmen were honored today for their heroism in contested airspace as they received the Distinguished Flying Cross (which honors aerial achievement) and Bronze Star Medal (which recognizes service in a combat zone).  KHQ
