COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane County Fire District 9 firefighters rescued Riley, a 12-year-old 200-pound Leonberger, from a creek on Thursday after his owner discovered he was missing during routine time—Riley is now home and will have a vet check-up soon.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • The Spokane Valley Kiwanis Club raised $10,000 to fund 17,000 Paw Patrol stuffed animals for police and fire departments to comfort kids during 911 responses — a project started four years ago by Councilman Ben Wick’s daughter, supported by local sponsors.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Numerica Skate Ribbon opens today at 10 a.m. at Riverfront Park — free admission runs from spring to fall with skate, scooter, and pedal kart rentals available or you can bring your own gear.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Spokane County Firefighters rescued 200-lb dog Riley from a muddy puddle at a park today and returned him safely to his owner.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • A new exhibit at the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture honors 50 years of Bloomsday by showcasing artifacts—including t-shirts, trophies, and founder memorabilia—in a time capsule that connects the race's past to its future. Visitors can also vote on this year's race shirt color.  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Iran shot down a U.S. F-15 fighter jet today near Airway Heights, sparking a rescue mission to locate a missing crew member. The operation faced challenges—an A-10 crashed and Black Hawk crews were injured—but experts at Fairchild Air Force Base credit SERE training for preparing personnel.  KXLY
  • Starting Monday, Washington DOT will resume work to install ramp meters at the Harvard Road interchange near Liberty Lake. Drivers on westbound I-90 should plan extra travel time as the Liberty Lake Road on-ramps and a right lane are closed select hours April 6–9 and April 13–16.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • The Washington State Department of Transportation will close the left lanes of Greene Street between Mission and Ermina on Monday at 6 a.m. — contractor crews will build traffic islands on the North Spokane Corridor — with closures lasting until Friday, April 10.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence announced that the Spokane Dental Residency Program will end with its current resident cohort in June 2026. The program, which served about 250 patients monthly and focused on care for vulnerable patients, will see its caregivers move to other roles and patients referred to additional services.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Arizona coach Tommy Lloyd led the Wildcats to a 79-64 Elite Eight win over Purdue in San Jose, earning a Final Four spot. With roots in Spokane and strong ties to Gonzaga, the Wildcats will face Michigan at 5:49 p.m. today in Indianapolis.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane Indians return to Avista Stadium with major upgrades including a new scoreboard, video board and sound system. Today's game features a dance party fireworks night (first pitch at 5:09 p.m.), a temporary concession stand while a permanent one is built, and free parking for fans.  FOX 28 Spokane
