ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A car fire on eastbound I-90 near Thor-Freya caused traffic delays in Spokane on April 6th + firefighters and traffic crews worked to put out the flames though it is unclear when the scene will be cleared.  FOX 28 Spokane

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Doyle's Ice Cream Parlor near Boone Avenue and Nettleton Street reopened for spring on Friday as customers lined up for classic flavors like vanilla and chocolate and fun choices like bubblegum and licorice— the shop is open Wednesday through Friday 3 p.m. — 8 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 1 p.m. — 8 p.m.  KXLY

CULTURE NEWS

  • Queen Reagan of University High School was named the Lilac Festival queen on March 30 and she, along with seven Royal Court members, received over $30,000 in scholarships at the coronation ceremony. They will join the Armed Forces Torchlight Parade on May 17 and meet local children at the Royal Tea Party on April 27.  KXLY

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spokane Public Schools librarian Rachel Peters of Hutton Elementary School received the 2025 Teacher Librarian of the Year Award from the Northwest Council for Computer Education and was recognized for helping students + staff use computers and other tech.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane Valley Fire Department announced a contract to provide emergency medical services at Avista Stadium for Spokane Indians home games with first responders ready to treat emergencies — the contract covers the first two months of the season and may be extended for the remainder.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • University High School wrestler Libby Roberts competed at the 2025 USA Wrestling Women’s National Championship in Spokane this weekend. She began wrestling at age 8 after she saw her brother compete and won her fourth state title in February—many peers cheered her on.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Spokane Hoopfest has launched an Honorary Recognition Tile Program that offers residents a chance to honor a basketball figure by purchasing a tile to be displayed on the pillars at Riverfront Park for at least 50 years plus the tiles cost 450 dollars for a 10 by 6 size or 350 dollars for a 10 by 4 size. Submissions are subject to approval and must be received by May 25.  KXLY
  • Tyson Degenhart ended his college career at Boise State after a loss to Nebraska in the College Basketball Crown semifinals on Saturday—finishing with 2,037 points as the program’s all-time leader. The Mt. Spokane graduate will hire an agent next week and now plans to pursue a professional basketball career.  The Spokesman-Review
