- ➤ Residents can join the volunteer Spokane County Search and Rescue Team on April 19th from 10:00 a.m. to Noon at 5.11 Tactical, 4808 E. Sprague Avenue to learn about their life-saving work and find out how to support their donation drive. Spokane County
- ➤ Spokane Lime riders have been given a chance to support domestic violence survivors using a ride round-up option in the app—donations go to the YWCA when riders round up their fare to the nearest dollar. The program began on April 10 and aims to provide extra resources for survivors. FOX 28 Spokane
- ➤ Eight-year-old Jackson George was honored by Spokane Regional Emergency Communications and the Spokane Valley Fire Department in a ceremony this week for his calm 911 call that helped save his mother's life after she had a seizure earlier this year — his recognition highlights the importance of quick action during emergencies. - ➤ Downtown Spokane Partnership has named urbanist Peter Kageyama as the keynote speaker for the fourth annual State of Downtown + Awards Breakfast scheduled for May 30 at the Spokane Convention Center. Nearly 400 local business and community leaders are set to attend the event, as nominations for the Legacy and Impact Awards remain open through April 30 while tickets are available. - ➤ The Spokane County Treasurer’s Office will offer off-site property tax payment services at Spokane Valley City Hall on April 18 and April 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and at North Spokane Library on April 22 and April 29 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.—residents may pay by check or credit/debit card with fees applied. - ➤ The women’s homeless shelter opened last week at Knox Presbyterian Church gym in Emerson/Garfield to serve up to 30 women at night and is run by Jewels Helping Hands as part of Spokane Mayor Lisa Brown’s scatter-site program. It is the final shelter in the program that now provides around 220 beds during extreme weather—replacing nearly 80 Hope House beds as that facility transitions to a medical respite. - ➤ WSU’s Spokane campus addressed student fears as President Elizabeth Cantwell and Chancellor Darryl DeWald said many worry about finishing school, and Dean James Record celebrated 10 years of training medical students.
