ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Spokane County Medical Examiner identified Kodiak Otnes (34), who was found in about seven feet of water at Newman Lake on April 11 while the Sheriff's Office searched for a missing person along North Newman Lake Road, and authorities now investigate whether he drowned and suffered hypothermia.  FOX 28 Spokane

CRIME NEWS

  • The Spokane County Medical Examiner identified 49-year-old William Krieg as the homicide victim of a fatal shooting in Mead on April 7—Krieg was found shot inside a home on North Sheridan Street during a conflict over a burglary, and deputies later arrested a witness for unlawful firearm possession.  FOX 28 Spokane

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 9th Annual Spokane Speed and Custom Show is underway at the Spokane County Fair and Expo Center; the event began on April 11 and will end on April 13 — it features over 400 car entries with themed rooms for hot rods and Chevy Impalas. Brian Anderson, a longtime local car enthusiast, organizes the event with help from community supporters.  FOX 28 Spokane

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Visit Spokane will host the Northwest Public Power Association Engineering and Operations Conference and Trade Show from April 15th to 17th at the Spokane Convention Center. The event with 1,200 attendees will boost the local economy by nearly $2M — over 2,000 hotel room nights have been contracted.  Spokane Journal of Business

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • On Wednesday, the Washington House passed a bill that removes county coroners’ authority over fetal deaths and repeals the concealed birth crime while lawmakers dropped plans for wealth taxes and joined efforts with Congressman Simpson to block the sale of federal lands. State leaders and West Coast governors vowed to defend state climate policies against a federal order and local governments in 10 counties including Spokane will get six more months to update their comprehensive plans.  Spokane Public Radio
  • Spokane Valley officials will vote on a new ordinance on April 15 that aims to tighten rules for massage businesses accused of aiding human trafficking. Police Chief Dave Ellis said the plan requires massage certifications and law enforcement inspections within 90 days—steps designed to deter illegal activity nationwide.  FOX 28 Spokane
