ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Conservationists at Spokane Riverkeeper say low snowpack and a state drought declaration risk straining the Spokane River this summer and urge residents to save water by watering lawns early or after sunset. The group urges immediate changes to help the river withstand warmer months.  KHQ

  • Spokane County Fire District 9’s Regional Tech Rescue Team trained last week at the gondola and John A. Finch Arboretum — honing skills to reach people safely in challenging spots.  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Spokane deployed eight co-response teams that pair mental health experts with officers to handle crisis calls, giving a holistic view of cases like one north Spokane call from a neighbor needing help with treatment lapses. Officials said the teams relieved patrol pressure but treatment gaps remain.  Spokane Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Runners took part in the Bloomsday Shakeout Run Saturday morning on the course hosted by Brick West Run Club in preparation for the upcoming Bloomsday race three weeks from now. Participants ranged from first-timers to veterans who used light rain as a good training condition.  FOX 28 Spokane
