COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane County Fire District 9 is hosting a CPR workshop and food drive today at the Union Stadium multipurpose room on North Market Street from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Community members of all ages will learn hands-only CPR techniques & drop off non-perishable food donations to support Mead Food Bank.  FOX 28 Spokane

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Monday evening, Spokane County Fire District 9 and Spokane firefighters responded at 7 p.m. to rescue a man stranded on a cliff ledge in the Little Spokane River Natural Area near the Painted Rocks Trailhead — he was not injured.  FOX 28 Spokane

CRIME NEWS

  • SCRAPS requested four charges against WildWoof Kennel in Airway Heights on April 14 after officers seized 171 animals on February 7 following a failed inspection that found poor conditions, and the charges include two for second-degree animal cruelty and two for unsafe confinement and transport.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane City Council passed a resolution on April 14 to oppose potential federal and state Medicaid cuts because they believed the cuts could harm local health services. Council Members Paul Dillon & Lili Navarrete sponsored the measure and sent copies to government officials to help protect coverage for one in four Spokane residents.  FOX 28 Spokane

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Julie McElroy from the Washington State University Master Gardener's program offered local gardeners clear advice on National Gardening Day to know their planting zones (most areas are zone 6), check for plant damage and drip irrigation leaks, and wait until temperatures reach 50 degrees before cleaning debris. She also urged testing soil and choosing local nurseries to help ensure that trees, shrubs, and perennials thrive.  KHQ
