- ➤ A 35-year-old Black man is suing deputy Samuel Turner and the city for allegedly using excessive force after he was pulled from his car, hogtied, and taken to jail on Oct 1 near his Spokane Valley home at HometTowne Studios on E. - ➤ Washington state lawmakers advanced a bill that will require gun buyers to complete a safety course and secure a permit before purchase after Senate approval, and the bill now awaits House reconciliation. Spokane's Maddie's Place, a detox facility that helped over 130 infants, will close if it does not secure $2 million in state funds before its current funding runs out—its future now depends on meeting state budget deadlines. - ➤ The City of Spokane and Catholic Charities Eastern Washington have partnered to reserve emergency shelter beds for first responders to move unhoused individuals willing to accept help. - ➤ Lawyers and community members across the Inland Northwest received an email from the Department of Homeland Security last week instructing them to leave the United States within seven days or face legal action.
