COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 25th Annual Spokane Garden Expo will be held on Saturday, May 9 at Spokane Community College from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.—featuring over 300 booths with plants, gardening supplies, art, and ideas for Mother’s Day gifts.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After a three-month trial, the transit agency permanently ended the downtown bus plaza smoking area — a change that reduced loitering and improved safety. The space will be repurposed to provide easier curb access for those with limited mobility.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane’s Safe and Healthy Task Force will present final recommendations to elected officials by the end of May, potentially including a ballot measure for new jail funding, as members stress breaking community silos and boosting public health and safety measures (ongoing discussions aim to secure lasting local oversight).  Spokane Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Spokane Indians fell 5 to 2 yesterday at home to the Vancouver Canadians and now sit at a 6-9 record tied for fourth in the Northwest League. They have Monday off and will travel to Everett to begin a six-game series against the Aquasox Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • More than 1,000 runners participated in the annual Spokane River Run at Riverside State Park on Sunday morning. The event featured four races from 5K to 50K, raised funds for local student programs, and marked 24 years of community tradition — organizers hope to draw 1,200 runners next year.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Spokane Zephyr ended their three-match winless streak, beating Sporting Club Jacksonville 2-1 on Sunday at Spokane One Stadium with goals from Tori Waldeck and Emma Jaskaniec — they remain three points from a playoff spot and will host Fort Lauderdale United FC on Sunday, April 24 at 4 p.m.  FOX 28 Spokane
