COMMUNITY NEWS

  • About 90 Spokane veterans flew Tuesday morning on the Inland Northwest Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit memorials honoring their service, and they will return today at 7:30 p.m. to be welcomed by family and community in Spokane.  FOX 28 Spokane

CULTURE NEWS

  • WestCoast Entertainment announced its 2026-27 STCU Best of Broadway season, which will bring five touring musicals to Spokane with its season opening featuring '& Juliet' from Oct. 13 to 18. Season ticket sales began today at 10 a.m. with packages starting at $260 and flexible payment plans available.  FOX 28 Spokane

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Two Spokane County school district measures failed Tuesday night as voters approved only 49% of the $200 million bond plan in East Valley and 46% of the capital levy for major repairs at Lakeside High School in Nine Mile Falls.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Two local school districts are asking voters to decide on major facility funding measures. East Valley families must vote on a $200 million bond + Nine Mile Falls voters may decide on a capital levy for urgent school repairs in this month's special election.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane Valley City Council approved the plan (vote 6 to 1) to build a $44 million ice rink complex next to Sullivan Park that includes 65,000 sqft for a hotel and commercial building; the rink is expected to open in June 2027.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Spokane City Council is studying a new incentive that encourages property owners to keep mature trees in their yards, helping lower cooling costs and improve air quality. The proposal is expected to be considered before the council later this summer.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • Gonzaga added 7-foot-1 center Massamba Diop to its roster on Tuesday from Arizona State after a recruiting battle with St. John's. The sophomore transfer is expected to bolster the frontcourt as he prepares for the 2026-27 season.  The Spokesman-Review
