COMMUNITY NEWS

  • As fire crews thin conifers on 22 acres at Tuscan Ridge to reduce wildfire risk, the trail access point at 57th Ave and South Hatch Road is closed through mid-May.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane County marriage records show recent filings for several local couples in Spokane, Rathdrum, Airway Heights, Greenacres, and Nine Mile Falls. Plus, marriage dissolutions have updated records of marital status.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spokane Valley Farmers Market is moving to Scale House Market at the Quarry from June 5 through August 28 and will operate Friday evenings from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in partnership with Four Roots + Spokane Conservation District.  KHQ
  • The Spokane Valley Farmers Market relocates to Scale House Market at the Quarry (4422 E. 8th Ave, west of Carnahan) this season. The market will open June 5 and run Friday nights through the end of August, supporting local farmers and small businesses.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Local volunteers from the Downtown Spokane Partnership are cleaning up downtown ahead of Bloomsday—the 50th annual race set to welcome visitors from 50 states and 20 countries. Bib pickups begin today at 11:30 at the Convention Center as more runners register.  KXLY

  • On Thursday, Apr. 30, gas prices in Washington hit record highs at $5.57 per gallon, prompting local drivers to reexamine their fuel use. Experts recommended that reducing highway speeds and using Spokane Valley bus routes may help lower escalating fuel expenses.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Liberty Lake police held a packed meeting to review rules for golf carts and e-bikes after two incidents led to hospitalizations. Starting July 1, officers will more strictly enforce that these vehicles only travel on roads with 20-mph speed limits.  FOX 28 Spokane

SPORTS NEWS

  • Plante’s Ferry Sports Complex in Spokane Valley finished phase one of its upgrade, adding three new astroturf soccer pitches to attract youth sports and tourism while ensuring environmental safeguards. The project is funded by state+ federal+ local sources and sets the stage for further improvements in coming years.  Spokane Public Radio
