CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane Valley Fire and Police Departments are investigating two dumpster fires that occurred Thursday around midnight near Trillium and River Rock Apartments on Mansfield Avenue as potential arson incidents, with videos under review and a suspect's picture to be posted soon — residents are asked to report any suspicious activity.  KHQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Cirque du Soleil’s CRYSTAL dazzles Spokane audiences with ice skating acrobatics at Spokane Arena from May 1 to 4. The production features seven circus acts — tickets start at $38.  KHQ

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Eastern Washington University held its graduation ceremony last Friday where 40 nursing students from the fall 2023 cohort completed their program to help ease a state nursing shortage+ one student, Alexana Bueno from Tri City, said she is eager to start her career in health care by specializing in oncology.  KHQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Washington’s Department of Fish and Wildlife opened its annual northern pikeminnow reward fishery on Thursday along the Columbia and Snake rivers to help protect salmon and steelhead+ anglers earn $6 for each of the first 25 fish, $8 for fish 26 to 200 and $10 for each additional fish as part of a program running daily through Sept. 30.  The Spokesman-Review

  • The City of Spokane is inviting students 18 and under to submit manhole cover designs that reflect the Inland Northwest’s water, nature, and landscape—winning entries will earn a $100 prize, be placed near the winner’s home, and be recognized by the city.
