Flett Middle School held its fourth annual powwow on Saturday to honor Pauline Flett, a tribal elder who helped preserve the Spokane Salish language; the event featured regalia-making workshops and vibrant drumming and dancing contests.

Amphibian Week 2026 begins today as the Great Basin spadefoot toad (a peanut-scented amphibian with shovel-like feet and a duck-like call) emerges from burrows during rain or thunder to breed in semiarid habitats near Spokane Valley.

Spokane police reminded residents and event participants to avoid parking along the Bloomsday route because vehicles will be towed at midnight Sunday.
Street closures begin at 4 a.m., and clear course maps mark tow-away zones while select downtown streets remain open for non-participants.
