On May 4th, a 22-year-old Spokane man driving northbound on SR 395 six miles north of Spokane drifted off the left shoulder at 8:36 a.m. (he overcorrected and his car rolled) injuring him and a passenger, and authorities said he was under the influence with charges pending as the road reopened after the right lane was blocked.

Canadian students from the Victoria School of the Arts in Edmonton came to Spokane for Bloomsday to join a big race, sing the Canadian national anthem, and keep a 25-year tradition—experiencing local culture and shopping while watching race leaders.

The event provided a clear cultural exchange and helped involve young visitors in Spokane’s community activities.

Rattlesnake season has started and Cowiche Canyon Conservancy warns hikers to wear long pants and sturdy shoes while staying on trails (snakes usually give a warning before striking).

Hikers should freeze, wash any bite area with soap and water, and seek immediate medical help if bitten.

Former Seahawk Justin Britt, who retired in 2023 after facing depression and anxiety, ran his first Bloomsday race to share his message that highs and lows are temporary — more than 35,000 runners brought their own stories to Spokane.

He now uses running as a new way to keep his competitive spirit alive.
