CULTURE NEWS

  • On Monday, May 4, the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture earned unconditional reaccreditation from the American Alliance of Museums, placing it among 1,100 nationally. Executive Director Wes Jessup said the museum will continue expanding access to art & history in the community.  The Inlander
  • The 34th annual Mother’s Day Home Tour runs Sunday, noon to 4, in Browne’s Addition, featuring Loewenberg-Roberts, Dillingham, and Campbell Houses. Sponsored by the Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture, the event offers guided walks + Model T displays + live jazz by Time Baby, with tickets from $15 to $20.  The Spokesman-Review

  • High gas prices in Spokane have led some families to limit long trips while tourism experts with Visit Spokane predict that costlier fuel and flights will drive more regional visitors to try local weekend road trips (officials expect summer tourism to remain steady).  The Spokesman-Review

  • On Wednesday, NonStop Local's Leslie Lowe & Sean Owsley visited Ferris High School in Spokane to present Bethany Hultz with the Teacher of the Month award.  KHQ
  • Spokane Public Schools board considered a $600,000 contract for bus routing software on Wednesday night as part of a $30 million bus fleet upgrade. New buses are arriving while the district shifts from a contractor operated system (more costly) to one that will own all buses by next year.  KHQ

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Spokane County fire officials urged residents yesterday to clear brush+ remove flammable debris and prepare emergency go bags to reduce wildfire risk, as experts warn the season may be severe. They also announced a wildfire awareness event on May 16 in our local area.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane County received a FEMA grant to fund wildfire prevention projects at four conservation areas (Haynes, Holmberg, Beacon Hill, and McKenzie) as officials prepare for the upcoming fire season, with phase one focused on clearing materials that could fuel wildfires.  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Hoopfest 2026 is inviting nearly 2,500 volunteers to work in roles from behind the scenes to court monitors for the world’s largest 3-on-3 basketball tournament drawing over 200,000 fans — the festival kicks off with a Hall of Fame induction ceremony on June 24.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Zags Harwell withdrew from the G-League combine today & no additional details have been provided about his future participation.  KXLY
  • The Indians secured a 3-2 walk-off win over the Dust Devils in a tightly contested game.  KXLY
