COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Approximately 190 Avista electric customers in Spokane Valley will face a planned outage Friday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for maintenance; they are advised to turn off appliances and have backup supplies ready.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Meadowlane Road closed on May 11 for construction to install a J-turn, forcing drivers in Eagle Ridge to use Cheney-Spokane Road or White Road — adding nearly seven minutes to southbound trips on Highway 195. The detour will last for a month.  FOX 28 Spokane

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High schoolers gained career insights on May 11 at Armed Forces Trades Day in Liberty Lake, where military groups and local companies like Altek and Minds-I offered hands-on demos and job advice to help plan future careers.  FOX 28 Spokane

FINANCE NEWS

  • Mike Whipple, a branch manager at Numerica Credit Union, told residents that checking credit reports for errors and monitoring balances can improve unexpectedly low scores. He added that free annual reports and tools like Credit Karma help residents recover from drops (for example, with late payments or high balances).  FOX 28 Spokane

HEALTH NEWS

  • Providence announced Monday that Sacred Heart (the largest local hospital) will change its behavioral health model on July 14 by replacing 40 unlicensed counselor roles with licensed therapists and trained nursing assistants; group and individual therapy will continue with licensed staff to ensure uninterrupted care.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • NAMI Spokane has launched its 'Gather for Good' pop-up events during Mental Health Awareness Month to connect residents with local mental health resources at breweries and community spots.   • Davis Fogle is sharpening his skills this offseason after Gonzaga’s NCAA Tournament exit and has been practicing 500-600 shots daily at Spokane facilities as the team prepares for a bolder 2026-27 season. He is also helping recruit key transfers.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Holmgren’s Thunder swept Hachimura’s Lakers in a playoff series at the Spokane Valley arena yesterday — Holmgren led his team with standout play throughout the series.  KXLY
