CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane County Detectives arrested suspect Mykola G. Rakovskyi on two counts of Child Molestation 1st Degree after linking him to a victim aged 7 or 8 and possible contact with other children—he remains in jail as investigators review his online use of apps like Telegram and Instagram.  Spokane County
  • On May 10 at 2:05 p.m., Spokane Valley Deputies arrested 23-year-old Queston T. J. Anderson near N. Bowdish Road after he ran from officers and resisted arrest—he was booked on charges of Assault 3rd Degree, Disorderly Conduct, and Resisting Arrest, a baggie that tested positive for Methamphetamine was found, and his bond was set at $50,000.  Spokane County

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Lewis and Clark and Ferris High Schools received awards from a local nonprofit for their ongoing mental health awareness work (recognizing efforts in suicide prevention and community support). The Hope Squads meet weekly during lunch to plan broadcast segments and events such as Hope Week (with theme days that promote resources and positivity).  KHQ
  • Federal funding cuts forced KSPS to cancel its free summer camp, leaving families to search for other summer educational options in Spokane. Spokane Public Schools and the Parks and Recreation Department offer alternative camps—spaces are filling fast.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • A study found that children whose moms had obesity, gestational diabetes, or high blood pressure during pregnancy showed higher blood pressure and a faster rate of increase—data over nearly 30 years from about 12,500 mother-child pairs confirmed the link.
