COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At the Mirabeau Park Hotel last month, four kids and two adults saved a snorkeling man from drowning by promptly starting CPR; they received a lifesaving award during Monday's fire commissioners board meeting, and the rescued man is now doing well in Seattle.  The Spokesman-Review

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spokane Public Schools announced its summer camp lineup, featuring Camp Imagine with video game themed activities. Athletic camps run from June 1 through end of July for elementary and middle school students with most programs costing between $20 and $100.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Spokane Valley teens have a chance to learn skilled trades at an armed forces trades day that connects them with service professionals for hands-on career training. The event will take place soon in the community.  KXLY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Spokane Fire Department’s swiftwater rescue team trained at Bowl and Pitcher to ready crews for a busy summer on the river. Today, a wind advisory is active from 5 AM to 11 PM with winds of 20-30 mph and gusts (40-55 mph) that may move unsecured objects.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Gonzaga player Brandon Clarke died Monday afternoon in California at 29 and was remembered by coach Mark Few as a kind, gentle soul — Clarke briefly played for the Memphis Grizzlies and faced legal issues before his death, which is under investigation as a possible overdose.  KXLY
  • Elijah Hainline, a Mead High School grad and current Double-A player for the Dodgers, is showing steady growth this season as he learns new skills and works each game toward his dream of reaching the big leagues (23).  The Spokesman-Review
  • Spanish native Izan Almansa committed Tuesday to join Gonzaga’s basketball team but must clear eligibility hurdles from his professional past before the fall season. The 6—foot—10 forward is expected to boost one of college basketball’s top frontcourts if approved.  The Spokesman-Review
