  • Park Bench Cafe in Manito Park is set to reopen today (8 a.m.) after a one-day delay; the longtime local favorite has been serving since 1923 and will operate daily until 7 p.m.  KXLY
  • Today, Soroptimist International of Spokane marked its 100th anniversary at CenterPlace Regional Event Center with a mannequin display showing a century of women's wear. The club meets every third Saturday in Spokane Valley and supports local women through its Live Your Dream Awards & community projects.  The Spokesman-Review

  • Indigenous Eats, a Spokane restaurant, was awarded a $20,000 grant from American Express + Main Street America on May 21 to support Native Trivia Nights and other cultural events at its Riverpark Square and Boone locations.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Olympic figure skaters (including gold medalist Alysa Liu) will perform on the Stars on Ice tour at Spokane Arena at 7 p.m. today, offering a relaxed show that lets them focus on artistry (providing a break from intense Olympic pressure).  FOX 28 Spokane

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Businesses will test electric vehicles in a two- to four-week pilot by the Novara Energy Alliance, driven by high gas prices. Backed by Avista and Zero Emissions Northwest, the effort also introduces Washington Builds bank, which will fund renewable energy projects+ boost energy resilience in Spokane Valley.  Spokane Public Radio
  • Novara Energy Alliance, a collaboration among Avista Corp, Itron Inc, & McKinstry Co, launched Wednesday to study energy issues like rising costs and aging infrastructure with teams of experts. The group will hold its inaugural summit in October to set plans for clean energy solutions.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Spokane International Airport has altered parking and drop-off procedures for Memorial Day weekend due to construction on a $335 million project — officials recommend arriving two hours early and using parking garages and the rental car area for shuttles and taxis.  KXLY
  • Spokane airport received $6 million for improvements to its facilities and services. Officials said more details on funding use and the project timeline will be released soon + local travelers may soon benefit from the changes.  KXLY

HEALTH NEWS

  • A new report shows climate change is lengthening allergy seasons by warming temperatures and shifting pollen peaks — with Spokane experiencing heavier pollen loads this spring. Health experts advise checking local pollen forecasts as rising allergens may worsen symptoms in the community.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Mead senior Simon Rosselli won the District 4A discus title Friday with a nation-leading throw of 225 ft, 6 in at Central Valley and now aims to challenge the national record at the state meet in Tacoma later this week.  The Spokesman-Review
  • Gonzaga men's basketball is set to open their bracket at the Players Era tournament on Nov. 24 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as they face Kansas State. The team is guaranteed three games and could play in the championship on Nov. 28.  FOX 28 Spokane
