ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On May 27, a collision on US 2 injured a 22-year-old motorcyclist when a 79-year-old driver turned west on E Lane Park Road without yielding — his broken leg is non-life-threatening and he was taken for treatment.  FOX 28 Spokane

EDUCATION NEWS

  • On May 27, 2025, over 1000 students from Gonzaga Prep and nearby schools gathered at Scarpelli Gymnasium to watch NASA astronaut and Gonzaga Prep alumna Colonel Anne McClain speak live from the International Space Station. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Starting July next year, WA Cares will let residents combine private insurance with state coverage to help manage long-term care costs, with revised rules lowering the average career expense to under $9,000 and changing the contribution requirement to 10 total years—broadening care options for the future.  KHQ
  • Governor Ferguson signed a rent stabilization bill on May 7 that limits increases for older apartments to 7% plus inflation or 10%, leaving new units and low income housing exempt. Spokane County renters already experienced its impact this week when one tenant received an erroneous lease notice reducing a 16% increase to 10%—other tenants reported similar issues.  KHQ

SPORTS NEWS

  • Spokane Sports secured a $282,464 state grant from the Washington State Department of Commerce to add a permanent finish line arch at The Course Spokane Valley, which will open later this year with a preview season in late fall and a full championship season in 2026. The venue will host the 2027 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Cross Country Regional Championships as part of a city partnership to boost sports tourism — efforts aimed at drawing national competitions.  KXLY
  • Spokane Sports secured over $280,000 from the Washington State Department of Commerce to fund The Course Spokane Valley, a cross-country venue scheduled to open this fall.
