  • Yesterday, severe storms and hail hit the area, leaving thousands without power and causing fallen trees to damage cars and homes. City crews began clearing branches from parks while residents dealt with appliance damage and ongoing power restoration efforts.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Spokane Valley invites residents to celebrate America’s 250th birthday today at Veterans Memorial Plaza in Balfour Park from noon to 2 p.m. The picnic will feature live music from the U.S. Navy Band Northwest, kids’ activities, family history research stations and a living history program with colonial games — all free for everyone.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Ferris High School students have been evacuated as the Spokane Fire Department investigates smoke detected in the building — school officials said students remain outside with teachers until the area is safe.  KXLY

  • 4 News Now anchor Robyn Nance was inducted into the Silver Circle (honoring over 25 years in broadcasting) in Seattle Friday night after a long career that began in Missouri and led her west to Spokane in 1996.  FOX 28 Spokane

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Eastern Washington tribes are banning fireworks this summer (to cut wildfire risks) amid a dry winter. The move covers tribal lands and aims to help safeguard local communities as wildfire season intensifies.  Spokane Public Radio

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on I-90 near Spokane International Airport will face overnight delays starting Monday as roadwork reduces lanes to one between Highway 904 in Four Lakes and the area west of the Geiger Boulevard interchange. WSDOT advises allowing extra time for travel during the 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. weekday work hours.  FOX 28 Spokane
