- ➤ On Saturday afternoon, a sudden dust storm on Highway 395 cut visibility so low that it led to two crashes—one of which killed Spokane native Andrew Thomas and left another man in critical condition—while travelers followed police guidance to pull off the road safely. The Spokesman-Review
- ➤ Spokane Valley firefighters determined that a grease buildup on the kitchen hood started a fire at Hangry's on Wednesday morning—firefighters responded at 8 a.m. and three people escaped without injuries while damage was estimated at $75,000. KXLY

- ➤ Sarah Washburn and Sarah Wolfe opened Cultivated Chameleon at the historic Dresden building on North Monroe in mid-January. - ➤ On June 4 around 2:30 a.m., Spokane Police responded to an assault near Clark Park at 3900 N. Normandie that left a man critically injured and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Check at 509-456-2233—detectives have gathered DNA and other evidence. KHQ
- ➤ Spokane Police is asking for help with two drive-by shootings on West Courtland Avenue this year—no victims were identified and increased patrols along with new surveillance equipment have been set up. KXLY
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Fairchild Air Force Base in Spokane is starting a $48 million project this month to replace and consolidate its aging flight base operations facility with a new two-story, 65,000-square-foot building that will serve 17 units and support air crew functions. The current building will be demolished mid-June and construction on the replacement will begin in late August or September — the new facility is expected to be operational by late 2026. HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The city of Spokane spent nearly 2.5 million dollars on opioid recovery services plus critics say many young people still lack help due to service gaps and complex insurance rules. In 2023, 261 opioid-related deaths were recorded in Spokane including 27 children, and advocates call for stronger community support to address these issues. KXLY
