COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane County Fire District 9 will host its annual Demo Day event today at 3801 E. Farwell Road from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Firefighters will demonstrate lifesaving skills such as hands-only CPR and fire extinguisher use—community vendors and food trucks will offer health and safety tips while children can try a firefighter challenge course.  KHQ
  • Spokane Falls Community College will host an event on Monday to honor the remaining World War II veterans (including 104-year-old Joseph 'Pat' Tully, Bill Beckstrom and Chuck Cato) who served during the D-Day invasion 81 years ago. The ceremony comes as fewer than 2,200 survivors remain in Washington and Idaho.  The Spokesman-Review

CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane County detectives arrested 49-year-old Shawn C. Wallwork—a 27-time convicted felon—for burglary and theft after linking him to construction site break-ins on May 7 in North Spokane County and May 27 in Spokane Valley, where he stole more than $6,000 in materials and caused nearly $1,000 in damages, with further evidence connecting him to additional burglaries and his bond set at $20,000.  KHQ
  • Police increased patrols in a Spokane Valley neighborhood—where shootings occurred—to deter further incidents.  KXLY
  • Local police are searching for a suspect accused of killing someone+ officials said the manhunt is active as investigators work to gather more details.  KXLY
