ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ On June 7 at 7:50 p.m., deputies responded to a collision at E. Palouse Highway and S. Madison Road where an SUV hit a motorcycle, and despite efforts the male rider died—investigators are probing the crash with no arrests reported. Spokane County
- ➤ A motorcyclist was killed when an SUV struck him at the intersection of East Palouse Highway and South Madison Road on Saturday around 7:50 p.m.—authorities said the driver, who had slowed near a stop sign, did not see the motorcyclist while his passenger remained unharmed, with investigators ruling out impairment and no arrests made. - ➤ Spokane Valley Sheriff’s Deputies arrested 20-year-old Haleigh M. Weinkauf after she hit a pedestrian at the Knox Avenue and Argonne Road intersection—she fled the scene before deputies located her vehicle—and she admitted to drinking and cannabis use, which led to felony hit-and-run charges along with DUI and minor in possession charges. - ➤ On June 5, deputies responded to a domestic violence call near West Boone Avenue and Dover Road when 31-year-old Nash Archer hit a woman with his SUV during an argument and fled—he was later arrested near 32nd Avenue and Bowdish Road and booked for domestic violence assault, hit and run and driving with a suspended license. - ➤ Downtown business leaders urged the mayor to adjust the proposed ordinances in the H.O.M.E. Starts Here plan as Spokane City Council will vote on them on June 16 — they called for a downtown hospitality zone with stricter rules for sidewalk blockages, encampments and drug activity while the mayor’s team reviews the ideas. - ➤ The Spokane City Council will vote on June 16 to overhaul the city's homelessness laws after the state Supreme Court overturned the voter-approved camping ban on technical grounds. Mayor Lisa Brown’s plan will replace local enforcement zones with a citywide camping prohibition that gives individuals up to seven days’ notice to get help & adjusts shelter and panhandling rules. - ➤ This week, First Story held a wall-raising ceremony in Spokane’s Five Mile Neighborhood and sold a new home to Amanda Cole, a single mother who said the duplex—off Busy Street—offers her family more safety and space.
