COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Spokane Police officers partnered with Thrive International at the Thrive Nation Soccer Camp where over 200 kids played games and received pep talks — the week-long program will continue until Friday night.  KHQ

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On June 21, a house fire near the intersection of Trent and Lily caused $37,000 in damage in Spokane Valley—firefighters arrived quickly, extinguished the blaze and checked the home while a local hospital treated one person for an unrelated medical issue, and the cause remains under investigation.  KHQ

CRIME NEWS

  • A burglary suspect was arrested after assaulting four deputies on South McKinnon Rd. on June 24 — his arrest followed reports of a burglary in progress — and he now faces felony burglary and assault charges as he is booked into Spokane County Jail.  FOX 28 Spokane

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spokane Valley Summer Theatre’s production of 'Pirates of Penzance' impressed local reviewers with its fun ensemble cast, lively choreography, and creative set design—director Yvonne A.K. Johnson led standout performances from Grant Measures and Alexandra Lewis. Critics noted the act's clear humor and authentic costuming brought a fresh charm to the classic comic opera.  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers on eastbound I-90 near Barker Road in Spokane Valley will face delays tonight as the highway closes at 7 p.m. for repaving work — crews will detour traffic using the Barker Road off-ramp — and the roadway will reopen at 4 a.m. Thursday.  KXLY
  • The Spokane Valley City Council discussed an ordinance that would make it a gross misdemeanor to expose a child or dependent adult to controlled substances—penalties would be set at a minimum of 90 days for the first offense and 180 days for subsequent ones—after receiving concerns from Spokane Valley Police about gaps in state accountability laws.  KHQ
