On Friday, Airway Heights welcomed residents to tour a new fire station on South Garfield Street, a safety upgrade chosen by the community since 2023—firefighters highlighted plans to use the station’s new amenities as colder weather approaches.

Crews and families from SCFD#4 held a lemonade stand in Deer Park on June 4—raising $717 for the families of fallen firefighters Battalion Chief Frank Harwood and Battalion Chief John Morrison.

Young sellers raised funds for about three hours in front of the station.

The fireworks show at Riverfront Park on Friday was stopped soon after its 10 p.m. start when police received reports that someone was carrying a gun, though officers later found no active shooter—and one person was detained near the clocktower.

Spokane Impact is a new professional soccer team for athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities that joins Spokane Velocity and Spokane Zephyr at ONE Spokane Stadium — it is part of Project Inspire’s pioneering league.

Tryouts will be held at HUB Sports Center from July 15-17 — the team will begin play in September.
