- ➤ The Northwest Tandem Bike Rally returned to Spokane Valley on Fourth of July weekend for the first time since 2011, drawing nearly 185 riders from across the country who rode six route options that started and ended at Center Place near the YMCA. The event partnered with ValleyFest—raising about $5,000 for the ValleyFest Children’s Foundation as volunteers helped with snacks and support along routes ranging from 25 to 75 miles. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At least one person died after a two-car collision on Highway 2, six miles north of Spokane on July 6 at 4:13 p.m.—both northbound lanes were completely blocked and southbound lanes were partially blocked as emergency responders managed the scene. FOX 28 Spokane
- ➤ Washington State Patrol said a fatal two-car crash occurred on Highway 2 near Colbert (six miles north of Spokane) around 4:15 p.m. Sunday, which left at least one person dead and blocked northbound traffic, and drivers are advised to avoid the area. KXLY
- ➤ Evacuation orders near Riverside State Park were downgraded after firefighters slowed the Aubrey Fire’s spread to 50 acres—no structures were damaged and a wet line was established. FOX 28 Spokane
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Firefighters worked to contain the 50-acre Aubrey White Fire that started Sunday, with teams quick to set up a command center at Spokane Falls Community College. - ➤ Eric Lee, 77, who took the citizenship oath at the federal courthouse last August, is pushing for official recognition of the 74 American sailors lost in a 1969 collision—he says they deserve to be memorialized despite dying outside the war zone.
