CRIME NEWS

  • The Spokane County Sheriff's Office is searching for 72-year-old Harry A. Ballman, a white man (5'9, 160 lb, blue eyes, white hair, full white beard) who was reported missing on July 7 after being last seen on July 6 at his home in the 3700 block of East Laurel Road in Deer Park and who is known to wear Seattle Seahawks clothing while family members say his dementia may cause confusion.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • The Spokane County Sheriff's Office reported 72-year-old Harry Ballman was reported missing after his family did not find him Monday morning near his home east of Deer Park—he was last seen on foot Sunday afternoon and is known for his early-morning walks and Seahawks football attire while deputies ask anyone with information to call Crime Check at (509) 456-2233 referencing incident No. 10093409.  The Spokesman-Review
  • On July 5 at 3:10 a.m. a deputy on Freya Street pulled over after suspect Louis Mendez III in a stolen Pontiac intentionally drew attention with high beams and evasive driving, and deputies safely ended the pursuit with spike strips and a PIT maneuver—Mendez was then booked into jail with a $2,500 bond.  Spokane County

  • Gas prices fell today in Spokane as local reports from KXLY+ confirmed a drop at many service stations. The lower prices may help drivers as market changes continue to affect fuel costs.  KXLY

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Firefighting crews battled a 41-acre fire near Indian Bluff that was spotted early Sunday and is now 25% contained as they secured the perimeter and managed hot spots. Twenty ground crews and helicopters with water buckets worked on controlling the blaze while residents remained under Level 2 evacuation—officials hope to lift orders today.  FOX 28 Spokane

  • Mayor Lisa Brown unveiled her Home Starts Here Plan to boost affordable housing in Spokane on July 7 — a legislative package meant to remove barriers and address housing instability — as Senator Marcus Riccelli joined her to discuss funding with state and federal partners.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Mayor Lisa Brown held a press conference on Monday to announce proposals aimed at increasing affordable housing in the city—she outlined plans to boost local development—and the National Weather Service has issued a Fire Weather Watch from Tuesday afternoon through Wednesday evening as gusty winds and low humidity may lead to rapid fire spread.  KHQ

HEALTH NEWS

  • Proposed federal spending cuts on July 7 could force 200,000—350,000 people in Washington to lose insurance and put struggling hospitals at risk of closing vital services.
