During a three-week stay at Gonzaga's Luger Field, the Egyptian men's national soccer team built strong local ties with students, faculty and fans who followed their practices and visited Feteers — the only Egyptian restaurant where Mohamed Salah made an appearance.
Faculty said the experience united the community.
🎓 Education
Art Salvage Spokane and the Spokane County Regional Waste Ambassadors launched a school supply drive that runs until the end of July and accepts gently used classroom materials at library locations in Spokane.
Families can then pick up free recycled supplies for the new school year.
🌲 Environment
Due to high temperatures, low rainfall and strong winds, Spokane Fire District 9 warned residents today of elevated wildfire risk.
Fire Chief Matt Vinci urged homeowners to clear combustibles and prepare evacuation go bags — dangerous conditions are expected to continue through tomorrow.
A herd of goats from JJ’s Goat Service is trimming weeds in a field on Five Mile Prairie north of Spokane to reduce fire risk.
The goats clear brush and noxious weeds (areas gas-powered mowers cannot reach) in an eco-friendly effort.

Spokane County voters in Cheney, Medical Lake, Airway Heights and West Plains will vote on an aquifer protection measure to guard against PFAS contamination from firefighting foam on Aug.
4. Ballots will be mailed soon, and approved fees could run up to $2.50 per month (about $30 per year).
Pastor Luc Jasmin II resigned from the Human Rights Commission on July 1 after making antisemitic remarks during a March meeting (he said his resignation was meant to appease critics) that offended many.
Gov. Bob Ferguson said a replacement will be appointed soon.

Meals on Wheels Spokane is hosting a fan drive to help seniors beat the rising heat.
