On July 16th from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, up to a dozen school-age kids who are blind or visually impaired will take a free tour with the Spokane Valley Police Department to learn about law enforcement—reservations are required.

Spokane Valley Investigative Unit is searching for a suspect who vandalized Greenacres Park on July 8th—damaging a resurfaced basketball court and a new tree for an estimated $12,500.

On July 8 at 6 a.m., the Spokane Fire Department reported six fires set externally by a suspected arsonist and the Spokane Police Department is searching near 3rd Avenue while crews worked to put out the blazes—My Fresh Basket on West Summit Parkway was the northernmost fire.

Spokane Valley Detectives are investigating vandalism that caused $12,500 in damage when a suspect used a skid steer between July 4 and July 6 at Greenacres Park—damage to a resurfaced basketball court and a newly planted tree delayed the park's renovations.

The Spokane County Prosecutor's Office ruled that Liberty Lake Officer Darrin Powers will not face charges after he shot road rage suspect Shane Lafond on December 21, 2024 near North Malvern Road & East Wellesley Avenue when Lafond charged at him with a knife, and Lafond now faces assault, malicious mischief, and hit and run charges with a trial set for August 25.

The Hanford Site safely disposed of 2,000 gallons of treated tank waste that was transported through Spokane to facilities in Texas and Utah as part of the Test Bed Initiative—crews also removed the treatment equipment after reducing the waste’s radioactivity by more than 99%.

Spokane lawmakers had earlier raised concerns over the decision to route the waste through the area.

Spokane County officials held a meeting on July 7 to plan safety upgrades near Creekside Elementary using a $940,000 grant from the Washington State Department of Transportation.

Senior project manager Jami Hayes said the funds will pay for sidewalk fixes, ADA ramp installs and flashing beacons to help protect students and drivers in a busy area — more than 10,000 vehicles pass by daily.
