Good morning, Spokane Valley. Here's your local news at a glance for Thursday, the 10th of July.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Brick West Brewing opened just before the pandemic and changed downtown's look — but now it faces foreclosure after co-owner Jordan Tampien and partners missed their payments to Numerica Credit Union. Tampien said he plans to sell the building and lease it back by the end of July to keep the brew pub running.  The Spokesman-Review
  • STCU announced on Wednesday that its board unanimously named longtime employee Lindsey Myhre as president and CEO, making her the first woman to lead the credit union. She served as interim CEO after former leader Ezra Eckhardt left and will now guide an institution with 300,000 members, 1,050 employees and $6.3 billion in assets — and it is set to open its 50th branch soon.  The Spokesman-Review

CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane Police are searching for Chad A. Horne, 37, in connection with multiple arson incidents on July 8—he is described as a slim man about 5 feet 11 who may have dyed hair or wear wigs and also faces an outstanding warrant for Malicious Mischief Domestic Violence.  KHQ
  • The Spokane Fire Department confirmed that an arsonist caused the Elliott Fire near Spokane Falls Community College (which spread over five acres before evacuation orders were lifted) as firefighters worked to put it out; officials are investigating if the fire, which began in four locations (per the Department of Natural Resources), is linked to six other downtown fires.  KHQ
  • Authorities confirmed that remains found nearly three years ago in Idaho belong to Lesiah Olivia Pickett—a missing woman from Spokane identified by matching her dental records through a team of local and federal experts whose family has been notified.  KHQ

CULTURE NEWS

  • Spokane cook Suwanee Lennon landed a spot among eight contestants on PBS's The Great American Recipe, a show that airs locally at 6 p.m. Friday and runs weekly through Aug. 15. She uses the contest to share her Thai recipes and support her Feed the Village Project (a campaign to help her childhood village).  The Spokesman-Review

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Hope Fire near Evans in Stevens County has grown past 3,200 acres as Level 2 and 3 evacuation orders remain for homes at risk (firefighting resources are being deployed) while the Meenach Fire near Spokane Falls Community College has been contained. Spokane Valley City Council passed an ordinance Tuesday night that increases penalties for exposing anyone to opioids, and officials plan to work with the county and neighboring cities on enforcement.  Spokane Public Radio

SPORTS NEWS

  • Chet Holmgren signed a five year maximum rookie deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder weeks after he helped secure an NBA title.
