CRIME NEWS

  • Two people suspected of a copper wire theft spree causing $168K in damages were arrested and booked into the Spokane County Detention Facility—an investigation by the Washington State Patrol and local law enforcement began in early June and used modern technology to track the suspects along State highways and Interstate 90.  FOX 28 Spokane
  • Authorities are offering a combined reward of $20,000 for tips on Jonathan Shane Roberts—a suspected thief who used a fake cashier's check and a $5,000 down payment to steal a new RV and a Ford F-350—and law enforcement warns locals not to approach him as he may be near Liberty Lake.  KHQ
  • Spokane police are searching for Jonathan Shane Roberts, a suspected RV and truck thief who used a fake cashier’s check to steal vehicles from Brett’s RV and Marine—two Montana dealerships are offering a combined $20,000 reward for tips leading to his arrest as he is believed to be near Liberty Lake and authorities urge the public not to approach him.  FOX 28 Spokane

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Residents in Flat Creek united to battle the Hope Fire that started just under a week ago—neighbors helped evacuate homes and fought the flames as the blaze destroyed two residences and acres of pasture affecting local horses. Rebuilding efforts are underway with many areas now in need of reseeding.  KHQ

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Washington’s Department of Natural Resources cancelled the planned 200-acre land swap on West Plains after public backlash and will manage the land for up to two more years as it seeks a conservation option—ballots for the August 5 primary will be mailed this week while Spokane releases its updated count of homelessness today, with reports showing many students are sleeping on friends’ couches.  Spokane Public Radio
  • Spokane's annual point-in-time count on January 22 showed 1,806 people experienced homelessness with shelter numbers falling from 1,578 to 1,189—officials credit the new navigation center for guiding people to permanent housing and note a second year of decline—providing key insights for local efforts.  KXLY
  • Law enforcement agencies from coast to coast will join patrols on I-90 from July 20th to July 27th to catch speeders and reduce fatal crashes. The effort aims to save lives and remind drivers in Spokane Valley to slow down and drive responsibly.  KXLY
