- ➤ Today in Greenbluff the Cherry Pickers Trot and Pit Spit will start at 5:00 p.m. with food at the fire station and Harvest House, free Pit Spit until 6:00 p.m., and races at 6:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.—a new shirt design featuring a tractor and an outhouse is available as the event honors a tradition since 1978. - ➤ After a 911 caller reported a kidnapping when she saw a masked man with a gun drag a person into a car, Spokane police arrived with SWAT and later determined the suspect was an ICE agent in plainclothes—Chief Kevin Hall announced new protocols for dispatchers to contact ICE first to prevent dangerous confusion in future incidents. - ➤ A fatal hit-and-run on South Hill claimed the life of CHAS Health COO Sarah Doxey, 48, who was struck during her morning run by a teenage driver—local runners later altered their route to hold a small memorial. KHQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Spokane entered Level 2 drought response measures after USGS monitoring showed the Spokane River dropped below 1,000 cubic feet per second—stricter rules now limit outdoor watering to two days a week and ban hardscape cleaning during restricted hours. FOX 28 Spokane
- ➤ The Transportation Choices Coalition led a walking tour of Division Street at the Washington Traffic Safety Summit, highlighting dangerous state-owned roads. Its executive director Kirk Hovenkotter said the nonprofit will push for safety improvements — including wider sidewalks and better crosswalks — with an aim to secure $1.5 billion in funding over the next 10 years.
