- ➤ On July 19, Cheney police arrested Martin Julien, aged 46, and Riley Smith, aged 44, for attempted murder and burglary — the officers responded to a report of a man with a handgun outside a home near Ash Street and N. 3rd Street where witnesses said Julien aggressively pounded on the door and both men entered a locked area through a shared garage. - ➤ A suspect was arrested in Spokane's Whitman neighborhood after a domestic violence stabbing, as officers responded at 12:15 p.m. and tracked down the fleeing person about 15 minutes later—charging them with first-degree assault. KHQ
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Spokane County elections office held training sessions for partisan observers who plan to watch the ballot count. Observers will sign an acknowledgment form and schedule times to view the sorting, signature verification - and tabulation stages of the process. Spokane Public Radio

- ➤ Spokane Impact introduced Project Inspire—a new co-ed soccer league giving athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities a chance to play at a professional level, with tryouts recently held at HUB Sports Centers. The league will feature four teams with local games set for Sept. 13-14 at ONE Spokane Stadium and additional matches in Colorado this fall, with a championship planned in Houston on Nov. 22-23.
