CRIME NEWS

  • Spokane Valley deputies responded to a domestic violence call on North Marguerite Road and arrested a suspect, under the influence and armed with multiple knives, who became disorderly, fought deputies, struck one, and resisted arrest—before taser applications brought him down.  KHQ
  • Spokane Valley police arrested a 15 year old girl on July 24th after she threatened an adult man with a knife that is 12 inches long and punched him around 7:10 p.m. in the 2400 block of North Discovery Place—officers later collected a blue knife as evidence and charged her with felony harassment with a weapon and assault.  FOX 28 Spokane

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials said Spokane Valley needs more police officers as calls for help grow, and voters will decide on Proposition 1 on August 5 which would raise the sales tax by 0.1% to fund 10 new positions—Chief Dave Ellis said the change would lower response times and support investigations.  KHQ
  • A razor blade was found in a ballot envelope at the Spokane County processing center—Vicky Dalton said no one was injured—and police took the blade for investigation while ballot processing will continue as planned.  KHQ
  • Students at Creekside Elementary in Mead will soon have safer walks to school after Spokane County received nearly $1 million in federal funding from the Washington Department of Transportation Safe Routes to School program—this money will pay for new sidewalks and flashing lights at crosswalks on busy streets.  KXLY

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 22-year-old Jess Havens will be the sole driver for Spokane’s Killer – B Racing at Saturday’s Idaho 200 because the team could not repair a second car damaged in Montana. He said he will race the No. 16 Chevrolet at Stateline to earn points for the late model championship while working closely with teammate Casey Jeske.  The Spokesman-Review
